Who Jill Helps
Most people who find their way to me have already tried to figure things out on their own. They’re smart, they’re self-aware, and they’ve probably read a lot about what they’re going through.
They’re still stuck.
That’s not a failing. It usually means what’s going on is bigger than the workarounds they’ve found so far. Stress and anxiety that won’t quit.
A relationship that keeps hitting the same wall. An eating disorder and body image issues they’ve been managing in private. A sense that their life has shifted and they don’t quite know who they are in it anymore.
If that’s where you are, that’s exactly the kind of work I do.
How I Work
Therapy with me is not a place to vent while someone nods sympathetically. I listen closely, but I also engage. I ask questions that might push you a little. I share what I’m noticing. I help you see the patterns that are hard to see when you’re inside them.
My approach is insight-oriented and relational. We look at what’s happening now and where it came from, not to revisit old ground, but because context changes things. Knowing why a pattern started usually shifts how you’re able to work with it.
I draw from CBT, DBT, psychodynamic therapy, somatic work, art therapy and mindfulness. Which of those I use depends entirely on you and what’s actually going on, not on a fixed protocol.
Some clients want to understand themselves more deeply. Some want practical tools for managing what they’re going through. Most want both. I can work either way, and I adjust as things develop. I work to know you as an individual. I take a collaborative approach to our relationship.
My Background
Before I became a therapist, I spent 15 years as a teacher and school administrator. I worked with students from kindergarten through 12th grade in public and charter schools, including programs for gifted learners and English language learners. Later I worked as a therapist in a nonpublic school with both day and residential programs, supporting students with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges.
I don’t work with children or adolescents now, but that background shows up in my work every day. I understand how people learn, how patterns form early and follow us into adulthood, and how to meet someone where they actually are rather than where they’re supposed to be.
I’m also a parent of five. I’ve been through marriage, divorce, major career changes, and the experience of caring for aging parents. I bring that into the room in a practical way, because lived experience makes a difference in how I understand what you’re going through.
